Youssef Uses AI to Help the Visually Impaired

SHS Senior Anthony Youssef has been hard at work in Gary Hull’s Honors Special Topics in Computer Science class. Anthony’s project this year involves creating an AI-powered navigation assistant device for the visually impaired. He has worked collaboratively with advocacy groups to ensure that there is a need within the community for a device of this type, along with company heads to discuss optimal pricing as he's trying to keep the cost of the unit to under $100, so that it would be affordable for anyone who needs it. How does it work? The device connects a Go-Pro type camera to an ear piece, and the camera directs the obstacles in their path with specific instructions for how to move without hitting these challenges. Well done Anthony and a special thanks to Mr. Hull for his guidance in this project!
