How to Pay for School Meals
- Online: Add funds to your child's meal account through PaySchools Central. Transaction fees apply.
- By check: Send a check made payable to Spotswood Board of Education with "lunch account" written in the memo line.
- A la carte purchases: Students with outstanding meal balances cannot purchase a la carte items until the balance is paid in full.
Account Balances and Refunds
If your student leaves the district, you are responsible for any outstanding meal balances. To request a refund of a positive balance, submit a written request to dmarra@spsd.us within 30 days of the last date of attendance. Balances not claimed within 30 days will be forfeited.
Free and Reduced Price Meals
New Jersey has reimplemented the Free and Reduced Price Meals program for the 2025-2026 school year. This program determines eligibility for free or reduced meals and provides access to other benefits including free college applications and additional state programs. All families are encouraged to apply.
Important information:
- You must complete a new application every school year
- If you received a letter stating your family was directly certified by the state for 2025-2026, you do not need to apply
- Keep your determination letter as proof of eligibility
- Applications must be submitted within 30 days of the start of school. After 30 days, meal benefits will revert to paid status if no application has been received.
If you do not receive a determination letter after applying, contact Donna Marra at dmarra@spsd.us or (732) 723-2200 x5030.
