This week, Spotswood is celebrating New Jersey’s Week of Respect!

Held the first week of October, the Week of Respect promotes kindness, inclusion, respect, and bullying prevention throughout New Jersey schools.

Congratulations to our September Bee Great Teacher and Staff Member of the Month! September’s Teacher of the Month is second-grade teacher Mrs. McDonnell, and our Staff Member of the Month is RBT Mrs. Sheehan.

What happens when literary analysis becomes a team sport? In AP Literature, students recently tackled the AP Lit Olympics: a series of collaborative challenges designed to make the thinking of literary analysis visible, active, and a little bit playful.

Mrs. Lisciandra and Mrs. Hanna’s fifth-grade math class recently participated in a fun-filled and intense Multiplication Boot Camp! Students put their multiplication skills to the test while working hard, staying engaged, and having plenty of fun along the way.

Congratulations to Seniors Casey and Charlie, who received commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT!

Spotswood Public Schools is excited to share that the district has been selected to participate in the STRONG-ER Leadership Team Training and Literacy Coaching Support initiative, a year-long program offered by the New Jersey Department of Education in partnership with Rutgers University.

Ms. Avilez’s Social Studies students dove into the existential question: What is History? Students were tasked with defining why the discipline is important, what we gain from the study of history, and how a study of the past impacts our morals today, in addition to finding examples from pop culture.

Appleby School celebrated DOT Day on September 15th by reading The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This story encourages students to be creative, take chances, and believe in their own abilities. 

Mrs. Vonfrolio and Mrs. Bolognese’s classes teamed up for a fun, hands-on STEAM challenge! Students worked together to design and build bridges using a variety of materials. It was great to see their creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering skills in action!

Ms. Rafael’s class “dances” for Math!  We love to round using music and our best dance moves!

Mrs. Lisciandra’s 5th grade scientists are learning about the Earth and Sun through hands-on exploration! Students recently conducted a Shadow Lab, investigating how the position of the Sun affects the size and direction of shadows.

The first few weeks of school have been all about connecting, building relationships, and growing together in Mrs. Cantora and Mrs. Falzon’s classroom!

Mr. Schwartz's Computer Graphics & Design 1 students celebrated International Dot Day, a worldwide celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot. The story revolves around a girl named Vashti who is an unwilling participant in her art class. Her teacher encourages her to draw something as simple as a dot and then sign the paper, which she then puts on display as artwork.

Spotswood’s readers were in the spotlight at the Spotswood Public Library’s Summer Reading Reception. The celebration recognized students who went above and beyond their grade-level summer reading assignments by creating unique projects inspired by the library’s 2026 summer reading theme, “Unearth a Story.
