The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for designing, supporting, and continuously improving the instructional program across the Spotswood School District. The work of the department centers on ensuring that all students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind needed for success after graduation, including strong content understanding, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration.

The district’s curriculum is built to be aligned, coherent, and responsive, connecting standards, instruction, and assessment in ways that promote meaningful learning. Emphasis is placed on real-world application of core content areas such as science, mathematics, and language arts literacy, while also supporting students in becoming adaptable, lifelong learners prepared to navigate an ever-changing world.

A key part of this work includes ongoing curriculum review and refinement, ensuring that materials and practices remain current, rigorous, and inclusive. The department also supports professional learning for staff, recognizing that high-quality instruction depends on strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and collaboration among educators. District Curriculum is organized by content area and grade band and is available through the link below. Additional resources include required state mandate materials, such as the Amistad and Holocaust Commissions, as well as a differentiation addendum embedded across all curriculum areas.
