Mrs. Selina Pewitt

My 7th grade math teacher at Claxton Middle School in Georgia was a superior educator, and it was during that school year I realized “I want to be just like her!”  That is when and where my path to a career in education began.  I earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degree in Secondary Mathematics from Georgia Southern University and began my teaching career in 1990 at the high school from which I graduated, Claxton High School.  In 1998, I took a position as a math teacher and varsity softball coach at Carrollton High School in northwest Georgia.  It was during my tenure in Carrollton that I began the transition to school administration, serving as the district Gifted & Talented Facilitator.

In 2006, I moved to New Jersey and was fortunate to receive a position as a math teacher at Spotswood High School.  I continued my pursuits in school administration by earning my Supervisor Certification from Monmouth University in 2012 and my Principal Certification through the NJEXCEL program in 2015.  Most recently, I completed the superintendent program through NJEXCEL and now hold a Chief School Administrator Certificate.  During my time in Spotswood, I have served as Math Department Chair, Secondary Education Department Chair, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  In August, 2020, I was named Assistant Superintendent, a position I am honored to hold.

Over the course of my 31 year career in education, I have been fortunate to grow professionally and experience the field of education in varied capacities.  I enjoy the work I do with teachers as they develop and implement quality curriculum through creative and engaging instruction.  However, the fire started by my 7th grade math teacher has never dimmed or even flickered, and I will also be a math teacher at heart!

Away from school, I enjoy home projects and gardening.  My husband and I have five sons and two fabulous grandchildren.
